Observation Narrative
Compared to plot LASP004, this plot represents a much more substantial area of white pine - oak / heath vegetation. Here, Pinus strobus is the clear overstory dominant over ca. one hectare and the habitat is a more mesic, lower, cocave, north-facing slope bordering a boggy drain. The stand also differs from the adjacent upland oak/heath forest by the presence of the ericads Kalmia latifolia, Lyonia ligustrina var. ligustrina, Rhododendron periclymenoides, Vaccinium formosum, and Gaylussacia dumosa var. dumosa. The stand of Pinus strobus appears to be more or less even-aged and probably increased following logging many decades ago.
